The district of Hilo offers some of the best bird watching opportunities on the Big Island of Hawaii. From native waterbirds of the wetlands to unique endemic forest species, this is a great way to see and hear the birds of Hawaii. Explore an ancient kipuka, (area of older forest
surrounded by a younger lava flow), alive with the sounds of native
honeycreepers, visit a lava tube, gaze at beautiful waterfalls, and learn about the dynamics of Hawaiian volcanism. Rich in science, history, and local
lore. Whether you are a serious birder, or just looking for a great way to spend the day, this adventure will surely be the highlight of your Hawaii vacation!
